Fall Quilters Retreat
New York Beauty
Instructed by Marj Moore
Supply List:
- Pattern - Flowers Around New York by The Quilt Patch $9.00
- 36 fat quarters (or equivalent fabrics). This is a good project to use 'stash'. You need to have at least 13" pieces (not .25m) for the larger piece in each block.
- Add a quarter ruler (either 6" or 12"- I do prefer 12")
- Freezer paper - 1 m
- Best press - optional
- Basic sewing supplies
Those are the fabric requirements if you plan on
making the whole quilt. Fabrics can be very scrappy, or organized color
way (all blocks the same). They can also make a runner, or a smaller
quilt. I usually put a border on too - I haven't called for that, or
binding, because sometimes people decide that later. One block takes 5
colors, if that helps people choose.
WONKY
STAR QUILT
Instructor: Yvonne Carlson
FABRIC
and CUTTING REQUIREMENTS:
BABY SIZE:
52 stars = 260 (3 ½ Inch) squares
of star fabric
And 208 background (3 ½ inch)
squares
Fabric
Amount: 2 M of star fabric, 1 ¾ M of background fabric
LAP/THROW SIZE:
And
360 background (3 ½ inch) squares
Fabric
Amount: 3 ½ M
of star fabric, 2 ¾ M of background fabric
DOUBLE BED SIZE (no border):
And
576 background (3 ½ inch) squares
Fabric
Amount: 5 ½ M
of star fabric, 4 ½ M of background
fabric
DOUBLE WITH BORDERS:
And
520 background (3 ½ inch) squares
Fabric
Amount: 5 M of star fabric, 4 M of background fabric
Plus 1 ½ M of border fabric (I recommend the first border be 3 inches so ¾ M needed, second border should be at least 3 inches so ¾ M or more).
*Add the appropriate border
fabric amounts for any of the above sizes and we will adjust the quilt size to
match.
Fabric Cutting Information:
All of the cutting is 3 ½ inch
squares. Each star requires 5
squares of the star fabric and 4 of the background fabric. Select your quilt size above and cut at least
that many squares. Cutting a few extra
of both the star and background fabric will help by giving us some flexibility
in the layout.
Additional Supplies:
- Sewing machine and ¼ inch foot
- Basic sewing supplies
- Coordinating thread
- Cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler
- A design wall will help with the layout (a large piece of batting works well)
